Now that blogging is becoming more and more mainstream, I am coming across more teenagers who would like to start up their own blog and start publishing online. I am a teenager myself, so you can trust that this information is coming from a reliable source that you can relate to…
Choose Something You’re Interested In
The first thing you should think about is what you’re interested in. If you do nothing but spend time practicing cheerleading, then you should create a blog about cheer and how to perform different stunts and things of that nature. If you consider yourself very social, you could write articles to help shy teens come out of their shell and make more friends. If you have a large supply of makeup and clothing, you could start a blog about beauty products… The bottom line is to choose something you are interested in and will continue to be interested in down the road. Remember that just because you like Japanese anime right now doesn’t mean you’ll like it two years down the road.
Make Sure You’re An Authority On The Topic
The biggest problem with choosing a blog topic is understanding that you need to be an authority on the topic. For example, if you are a freshman and just made the tennis team for the first time, you aren’t an authority after three weeks of playing tennis. In this case, you shouldn’t make a blog about tennis tips because you have no clue what you’re talking about. However, if you have been playing tennis since you were eight years old and you have some tips to share, by all means, make a tennis blog. Just don’t rush into a topic that you have no idea what you’re talking about because you will crash and burn.
Be Able To Market Your Blog To Your Friends
The biggest advantage of being in high school is the ability to market products to a selected target audience that will pay close attention. If you have ever seen the TV show iCarly, it’s about these three teenagers who run a web show. They market their website heavily at their school and because of that, everyone knows about it. Information spreads like wildfire in high school, so take advantage of that if you can. If you create a blog about sports, teen drama, relationships, or anything else that people your age might be interested in, you’ll have guaranteed visitors.
In addition to being able to market your website at school, teens also have the advantage of Twitter and Facebook. If you already have a large Twitter following and start talking about your blog, you’ll be ahead of the game.
Here Are Some Possible Topics…
Some topics that you may be interested include: relationships, sports, beauty or fashion, tutoring (make sure you know what you’re doing first), technology and gadgets, making money (for teens), music, pop culture, etc. The possibilities are endless, but if you wanted to, you could always create a blog that will cover all of these topics. Technically, your topic would just be “being a teenager,” but it can include relationship advice, music reviews, makeup tutorials, and even skateboarding tricks. Just make sure you choose something you like and something you know a lot about and you will be successful (that is, if you know how to write and grab people’s attention). Good luck!
